maruni

Founded in 1928, Maruni Wood Industry Inc. has dedicated itself to creating wooden furniture that unites timeless craftsmanship with modern precision. Guided by the philosophy of “Industrialized Craftsmanship,” we merge handwork and machining—achieving crafted beauty, consistently high quality, and fair pricing. In 2008, working with designer Naoto Fukasawa, we launched the MARUNI COLLECTION with the iconic HIROSHIMA Armchair, aiming to set a new global standard for Japanese furniture. Jasper Morrison joined in 2011, followed by Cecilie Manz in 2022, each expanding Maruni’s creative vision. Designers and artisans at Maruni work closely together to create furniture of precision, elegance, and enduring value—pieces that will remain beloved for generations, furnishing everyday life with beauty, comfort, and a richness that nourishes daily living.

Event Information

maruni tokyo unveils "kupu sauna"—a new challenge born from a century of wooden furniture making and crafted from locally sourced Japanese cypress. Reinterpreting the traditional barrel sauna in a contemporary way, it brings together function and design with the sensibility of a furniture maker. Developed through the fusion of Maruni’s woodworking expertise, the pioneering know-how of ONE SAUNA, and the design vision of product designer Wataru Kumano, "kupu sauna" is more than a place to be enveloped in heat. It is a space to rediscover the richness of living with wood, offering a new style of quality and well-being inspired by Japan’s forests and furniture-making heritage.

kupu sauna Special Exhibition
October 16 (thu) - November 9 (Sun) *Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Maruni unveils "kupu sauna"—a new challenge that draws on 100 years of cultivated woodworking expertise and aesthetic sensibility, crafted from Japanese cypress. The name “kupu”, meaning “dome” or “something that envelops” in Finnish, reflects its gently embracing form. Reinterpreting the traditional barrel sauna in a contemporary way, it unites function and design at a high level. Born from the unique perspective of a furniture maker, "kupu sauna" is a true original Japanese sauna, born from a vision of sustainable living with local resources.
