Honoring Japan’s aesthetic sensibilities and spirit of craftsmanship, alongside the personality unique to each region and each company, JAPAN FURNITURE is a project aiming to share the values embodied in Japanese furniture with people across the country and the world. With over 350 member companies, comprising furniture makers, workshops and related businesses nationwide, the Japan Furniture Industry Development Association plays a central role in this initiative aiming to foster a singular brand for Japanese furniture. Entering its second year, this new challenge to share Japanese craftsmanship with the world now moves forward into a stage of further evolution.
From the Frontlines of Furniture Making to the Streets of Tokyo: Telling the Story of Japanese Furniture
Entering its second year, JAPAN FURNITURE is set to deepen its initiatives further. We are strengthening "Open Factory" projects by furniture manufacturers nationwide, creating year-round opportunities to experience craftsmanship firsthand. In addition, we are launching the new "JAPAN FURNITURE Connect Program." This year-round initiative connects creators and users through dialogue and hands-on experiences, featuring talk events at production sites and in Tokyo to showcase "Japanese Furniture" from diverse perspectives. As the project's highlight, "JAPAN FURNITURE SHOW by IFFT 2026" will return this autumn across the streets of Tokyo, following last year's great success. Carrying forward the 45-year legacy of IFFT, we will continue to broadcast the value of "Japanese Furniture" from this stage to the world.
