In the Hida area, rooted in craftsmanship traditions tracing back to the Asuka period, a group of pioneers, wishing for the prosperity of their region, began producing bentwood furniture from beech in 1920. Through the tireless efforts and challenges, Hida has grown into one of Japan’s leading furniture-producing regions. We remain committed to exploring forest resources and to delivering the warmth and comfort of wood in daily life. We aim to create a place where new creations are possible, a place that draws people together with its charm. Our vision is to make Hida, the birthplace of the company, hallowed ground for woodworkers.

At the HIDA Tokyo Midtown store, we showcased new furniture released this summer, including the ‘kei’ series designed by Wataru Kumano and ‘TUTU’, the first furniture product by FLOOAT (nationwide for the first time). In addition, through our collaboration with Tendo Mokko and Maruni Global Branding, we established the alliance brand KOYORI, presenting furniture designed by Ronan Bouroullec and GamFratesi.
The Floor Table ‘TUTU’ — FLOOAT’s First Furniture Product 10/10~11/5
The floor table “TUTU”, FLOOAT’s first furniture product, received high acclaim at ORGATEC TOKYO 2025. Crafted from domestically sourced chestnut, it features a minimalist design with semi-circular legs. Multiple units can be combined to accommodate various functional requirements, creating a gentle, rhythmic flow within a space. This exhibition presents TUTU for the first time.

These HIHI and DADA chairs, reared in the forests of Hida, are crafted by Hida artisans. As a pair of chairs, HIHI and DADA are like brothers or sisters ー similar in some ways, but very different in others. The exhibit HIHI and DADA shows chairs designed with domestic wood for HIDA by Haruka Misawa, who leads the Misawa Design Institute.
Hida Sangyo’s main production facilities are located in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, named the first factory, key products such as CRESCENT and SEOTO are meticulously crafted here. Although the factory itself was established in 2011, it carries over a century of rich history and accumulated expertise. To show a deeper insight into our work, we have organized a factory tour that allows visitors to experience the craftsmanship behind each piece of furniture. Guests can observe the types of wood used, the machinery at each stage of production, and the skilled artisans—access that is usually not open to the public. The tour provides a unique opportunity to understand how the furniture that supports daily life is created, enriched by the stories and insights of the factory. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the world of Hida Sangyo craftsmanship.
